Senior Broadcast Engineer - Esports Event Technology

As a Broadcast Engineer III (P4) at Riot Games, you will play a key role in designing, deploying, and maintaining the advanced technical infrastructure that powers our global esports broadcasts. Operating at the intersection of innovation and execution, you’ll lead engineering projects that support live productions for League of Legends, VALORANT, and other Riot IPs, both on-site and working closely with teams via our Remote Broadcast Centers (RBCs) and Riot Games Arena.

You will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in studio broadcast engineering, with deep expertise in studio systems, transmission workflows, and IP-based production technology. Working closely with Esports Live Production, Broadcast Production Management, and Technical Operations, you'll help ensure that every broadcast meets Riot’s high standards for quality, reliability, and creative ambition.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and support broadcast engineering teams at global esports events and studio productions , providing technical direction and serving as a point of escalation for complex problem-solving.
• Oversee and maintain production infrastructure, including audio/video systems, network management tools, communications systems, graphics, processing, and transcoding , ensuring reliability before, during, and after use.
• Act as a technical lead for studio and remote shows , guiding other engineers on implementation and delivery of complex broadcast projects.
• Design, deploy, and iterate on hybrid broadcast architectures , integrating on-premises and cloud-based resources to support scalable global workflows.
• Monitor, meter, and manipulate audio, video, and control signals with broadcast instrumentation to guarantee broadcast quality.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair broadcast hardware, servers, and production systems, ensuring uptime and operational resilience.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends , advising on adoption and integration into Riot’s global broadcast ecosystem.
• Coordinate cross-team production activities, balancing reliability, innovation, and scalability across global operations.
• Work varied schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to support the demands of live esports events.

Required Qualifications:

• 8+ years of broadcast engineering experience or equivalent combination of experience and an advanced degree.
• Deep knowledge of core broadcast systems including switchers, audio consoles, post-production tools, ingest/playout systems, and transmission technology.
• Proficient in video/audio encoding practices, formats, and streaming protocols (e.g., H.264, NDI, SRT, RTP).
• Hands-on experience operating, maintaining, and repairing complex studio and remote broadcast systems.
• Strong understanding of network infrastructure, IP video technologies, and standards such as SMPTE ST 2110.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical conversations, provide constructive feedback, and implement sustainable workflows.
• Experience driving engineering best practices, including source control, testing, automation, and tool development.
