THE ROLE

Video is the heart of all Zattoo’s services. We build and operate a platform that carries thousands of 24/7 live TV channels, as well as on-demand content from dozens of providers. The systems to stream all that content and manage the stream sessions for all users is built and maintained by our highly skilled Streaming & CDN team.

As Engineer Manager, your role is to enable your team to do their best. As a leader, you should be approachable, thoughtful, listen well, and facilitate an easy exchange of ideas, knowledge, and practices. You should bring your own ideas on how to further optimize the architecture and help extend the capabilities of our system every day. You should be curious about the inner workings of our video encoding and streaming, and be able to think and operate at scale.

THE STREAMING & CDN TEAM

The team creates the streams that are directly accessed by our end users, for all content that is ingested to our platform. It develops our Smart CDN and makes sure that Quality of Experience stays as high as possible, keeping reliability as the highest priority. The Smart CDN consists of a distributed CDN architecture of in-house software components that does advanced caching and JIT packaging and encryption.

Part of the team’s responsibility is to implement and maintain various DRM system server components. We also handle stream session management to granularly apply business and access logic to streamed content.

We work closely with several “sister teams” which maintain other video-related components: Ingest & Storage, Ads Backend (they build our in-house SSAI solution) and Playback.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Provide organizational leadership for the Streaming & CDN team
• Own the technical vision with the support of the senior developers
• Oversee the end-to-end development process. Ensure the team delivers high-quality, reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions
• Constantly raise the bar on quality and best practices
• Represent the team and support stakeholders with technical expertise
• Work hand in hand with other engineering managers and reduce complexity by optimizing joint processes
• Directly manage 2-4 engineers, lead the hiring process
• Grow, develop and retain engineering talents
• Contribute hands-on to the tech stack of the team

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

• 3 years experience in leading engineering teams
• Experience in building highly available services and APIs that work and scale efficiently
• Experience in testing on different levels and a mindset that sees testing as a fundamental part of software development
• Experience working in Scrum teams
• Fluent verbal and written English language and communication skills
• Be a role model leader and help others to grow
• Proficient skills in C++ and/or Go programming
• Bonus : Previous experience with video streaming systems or CDNs
