About the Role

As one of the BMC flagship journals, Genome Medicine publishes outstanding research in the application of genetics, genomics and multi-omics to understand, diagnose and treat disease. The journal publishes advances that serve to bridge basic science and clinical research communities in all areas of human health, disease and medicine.

We are looking for an Associate or Senior Editor to join the Genome Medicine editorial team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the editorial mission of Genome Medicine, working as part of a dynamic team of editors who assess manuscripts, work with our editorial board members and promote the journal within our research communities.

Role Responsibilities:

• Handling original research papers within the journal’s broad scope and managing all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.

• Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in light of expert advice.

• Liaising with experts in the international scientific community as well as editors across Springer Nature.

• Attending conferences and visiting research institutes to engage with the communities and to represent the journal.

• Engaging with the editorial board of the journal.

• Commissioning and editing of Reviews, Comments and other invited articles, as well as thematic article Collections on topics of strategic focus with external Guest Editors

• Contributing to journal strategy and editorial policies.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

• A PhD or equivalent experience in an area relevant to the journal’s scope and interests but with particular interest in candidates that have expertise in cancer genomics, clinical or functional genomics or bioinformatics.

• Broad scientific interests and a passion for science and open access publishing.

• Ability to critically assess manuscripts for scientific impact.

• Excellent time management and prioritization skills, and ability to balance short-term deadlines with long-term goals.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Eagerness to travel and meet scientists worldwide, learn more about them and their research, and represent the journal and BMC.

• Substantial editorial experience is required for candidates applying for the Senior Editor position

This is a full-time position for 12 months, located in our New York, or Berlin offices.

US Annualized Base Salary Range: Associate Editor: $80,000 / Senior Editor: $95,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
