Senior Cable Engineering Specialist - HVDC Cable Systems (m/f/d)

We are currently seeking an experienced

Senior Cable Engineering Specialist – HVDC Cable Systems (m/f/d)

to support a major German HVDC transmission infrastructure project starting from 1 November 2026, with an expected project duration until 31 October 2028 and an option for extension. The assignment is primarily remote, with project-related onsite activities in Berlin as well as occasional travel to cable manufacturers and suppliers in Germany and Sweden.

As part of your role, you will be entrusted with the following responsibilities:

• Provide technical consultancy and engineering expertise for HVDC cable systems, with a particular focus on cable design, dimensioning and thermal performance
• Review and technically assess HVDC cable system type tests and Thermal Stability Tests and document the results to support approval decisions
• Support cable manufacturing activities, including FATs, acceptance testing and technical evaluation of production-related documentation
• Review and comment on cable manufacturers’ technical documentation, drawings and engineering deliverables
• Perform and/or technically assess thermal calculations and the thermal design of high-voltage cable systems
• Coordinate technical topics with cable manufacturers, testing institutes and other relevant project stakeholders
• Assess technical deviations, open points and risks related to type testing, production and cable design and provide technical recommendations

• Completed university degree in electrical engineering, energy engineering or a comparable technical discipline
• Several years of professional experience in the planning and implementation of high-voltage cable projects, ideally involving 525 kV HVDC or 380 kV cable systems, with a strong focus on cable design
• Extensive practical experience with type testing and acceptance testing of high-voltage cable systems
• Sound knowledge of thermal cable design and thermal calculations
• Experience in coordinating cable manufacturers and reviewing and approving technical engineering documentation
• Knowledge of relevant standards and approval procedures for energy cable systems
• German language skills at B1 level or above and English language skills at C1 level or above
• Strong analytical skills, technical judgement and the ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary project teams and external stakeholders
