Senior Back-end Engineer (f/m/d)

.img – itai’s machine GmbH is the digital unit of the „Berliner Verlag“ publishing group. With our „journalistic operating system“ (.jOS) we provide a cloud-native publishing platform that serves millions of users by connecting to headless CMSs, processing and enriching content, and distributing it via web and apps. This helps regional newspapers to meet the challenges of the digital age: it facilitates reach, engagement, and monetization of journalistic content and integrates it with analytics and AI services (e.g., tagging, voice synthesis, content generation). In addition to the publications of „Berliner Verlag“, we work with other national and regional media companies.

Tasks

Take responsibility for the growth the .jOS SaaS platform. As a Senior Back-end engineer you can contribute to the following areas:

• Usage of modern back-end technologies and related system architectures (e.g., micro-services, reactive programming, serverless)
• Working with cloud infrastructure for distributed systems to provide scalable solutions for millions of records and users
• Integration of third-party APIs and provisioning of outbound APIs for frontends and other consumers (e.g., crawlers) while optimizing for robustness and latency
• Work with DevOps processes focussing on a high degree of automation and quality (e.g., trunk-based development, infrastructure as code, multi-level test automation)
• Willingness to use, learn, and adapt our current tech stack, including node.js, TypeScript, MongoDB, Apache Kafka, Redis, AWS incl. ECS, Lambda, and CloudWatch

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on back-end technologies, ideally on top of a degree in computer science or a related field (e.g., mathematics, physics)
• In depth understanding of cloud based, distributed systems and ability to work with a complex custom codebase
• Experience with React.js, Next.js technology stacks
• Passion to understand business goals and user experiences behind software systems
• Collaborative approach to shared development with an ability to vocalize feedback and contributions to guide colleagues, and communicating with stakeholders
• Good knowledge of English; working understanding of German is a plus
